WordPress ไม่เพียงเป็นซอฟแวร์สร้างบล็อกส่วนบุคคล เรายังใช้มันสร้างบล็อกชุมชนได้ด้วย WordPress รุ่นสำหรับสร้างชุมชนนี้เรียกว่า WordPressµ (เวิร์ดเพรส มยู (มิว)) หรือ WordPress MU (เวิร์ดเพรสเอ็มยู) ก็เรียก

ปกติ การติดตั้ง WordPress ง่ายจนได้ชื่อว่า สามารถทำได้ภายในเวลาเพียง 5 นาที แต่การติดตั้ง WordPress MU นั้นง่ายเสียยิ่งกว่า เริ่มจากดาวน์โหลด WordPress MU ได้ที่ http://mu.wordpress.org/download/ แล้วติดตั้งดังนี้:

1. Unzip ไฟล์ที่ดาวน์โหลดมา (wordpress-mu-1.0.zip) จะได้แฟ้ม wordpressmu-1.0
2. อัพโหลดไฟล์ทั้งหมดขึ้นไปเก็บไว้ในพื้นที่
3. สร้างฐานข้อมูลสำหรับ WordPress MU และ MySQL user
4. รันสคริปต์การติดตั้ง โดยเปิดเว็บบราวเซอร์ไปที่ http://example.com/index.php แล้วทำตามคำแนะนำบนหน้าจอ

การติดตั้งทำได้สองลักษณะ คือ แบบ directory และแบบ subdomain ในที่นี้ ให้เลือกแบบแรก สำหรับแบบที่สอง จะต้องเซ็ท DNS และ Apache ซึ่งจะเขียนถึงต่อไป

พึงสังเกตว่า เราไม่จำเป็นต้องสร้างไฟล์ wp-config.php เหมือนในการติดตั้ง WordPress รุ่นปกติ WordPress MU จะสร้างไฟล์นี้เอง ทั้งยังจะสร้างไฟล์ .htaccess ให้ด้วย

The WordPress Trademark domain name usage policy was added not long ago to the official WordPress site. The policy basically says you can’t use the name in your domain name without permission.
